Jones Calf Problem Worries Jets
Friday 17 August 2007 at 11:04
New York Jets running back Thomas Jones should recover from a strained muscle in his right calf in time to play for the regular-season opener on September 9th against the New England Patriots, according to reports.
His agent told the Associated Press: "The doctor was vague in terms of how much time he would miss, but it would probably be a week-to-week injury."
The Jets refuse to specify the exact nature of the injury, but the claims by his agent will relieve fans who feared something more serious.
Jones will miss today's pre-season game at home against Minnesota, which will strain the Jets and offer a glimpse of how they stack up without him, should the injury keep him on the bench for a lengthy spell.
He rushed for 1,210 yards and six touchdowns while leading the Bears to the Super Bowl final last season, where they lost to the Indianapolis Colts, so his absence would come as a blow.
Quarterback Chad Pennington said: "Thomas has to focus on himself and get back as quickly as possible."
