Final Epsom Oaks Odds Available As 16 Runners Announced
Wednesday 04 June 2008 at 12:41
Lush Lashes is amongst the sixteen runners that will line up in Friday's Epsom Oaks.
Trainer Jim Bolger initially put Oaks plans on hold after her impressive victory in the Musidora at York but similar to Bolger's New Approach who is likely to run in Saturday's Derby, she is likely to take her place at Epsom after the initial doubts.
Lush Lashes Is Oaks Favourite
Lush Lashes is the 3/1 favourite for the race with Blue Square but it should be noted her impressive Musidora performance came on good to firm ground, as did her solid running on performance in the 1000 Guineas.
Ground Could Be A Concern
Her only flop to date came in heavy ground last season. The ground won't quite be that soft on Friday but it won't be anywhere near the ground she has enjoyed on her two successes either so many may choose to take her on at the price and it would be no surprise to see Lush Lashes drift before the off.
Dermot Weld Runs Chinese White
With Jim Bolger training the ruled out and then ruled in favourite in both the Oaks and the Derby it seems fitting that Dermot Weld should provide the twice raced and unbeaten second favourite in both races.
In the Oaks his contender is Chinese White who followed up a six length maiden win last year with a four and a half length win in a listed contest on her seasonal reappearance this year. He should improve on that and with proven soft ground form she could be popular at 5/1 with Paddy Power.
Katiyra Another Irish Contender
Katiyra is now the third favourite in the Epsom Oaks betting and is 13/2 best price with Coral. She is another proven in softish conditions and was arguably unlucky on her reappearance in a Group 3 over an inadequate mile. She is another Irish contender who will improve for her only run this season but she still has to prove her stamina more than most.
Frankie Dettori Oaks Ride
Housewives favourite Frankie Dettori will ride Clowance who is 9/1 with Stan James. She has won both her starts this year including the Swettenham Stud Fillies Trial Stakes at Newbury. She will handle conditions but possibly may just be short of Oaks class.
