Next Chelsea Manager Odds Change As Another Favourite Rules Himself Out
Thursday 05 June 2008 at 11:59
Another Next Chelsea Manager betting favourite ruled himself out of the running for the job yesterday.
Chelsea Manager Gamble Of The Week
Roma coach, Luciano Spalletti, had been backed from next Chelsea manager odds of 12/1 when introduced into the betting to as short as 9/4 but now finds himself a 14/1 shot with SkyBet.
Inexperienced Spalletti Says No
Stories in Wednesday's newspapers suggested Chelsea were about to approach Roma about the possibility of Spalletti succeeding Avram Grant but Spalletti was quick to rule himself out of the running. According to reports he does not yet feel he is experienced enough to take over a club of Chelsea's stature.
Chelsea Still Want Ancelotti
One experienced Italian manager who was high on Chelsea's wanted list was Carlo Ancelotti but he too ruled himself out of the running this week. Ancelotti is 10/1 with Coral and it is thought Chelsea still harbour hopes of bringing the Ac Milan coach to London but at the moment that hope looks somewhat forlorn.
Mark Highes Takes Over At City
Well backed Mark Hughes yesterday accepted the Manchester City job so he is now out of the running so who does that leave?
Rijkaard Favourite…..Again
Frank Rijkaard, who seems to become favourite every time someone rules themselves out of the running for the job is once again back to favourite and can be backed at 5/2 with Paddy Power. The Dutchman is as short as 7/4 in places and seems to be backed on the basis that no one else wants the job.
Big Phil Backed Again
Bookies have seen further money for ‘Big Phil' Scolari who is now no bigger than 7/2 with Ladbrokes. The Brazilian will not be making any decisions on his future until Euro 08 is over where he will be trying to take Portugal to glory. If no appointment has been made by then it could be a clear signal that Chelsea are waiting for the man who has knocked England out of the last three major international tournaments.
