Injury Doubt Sees Tiger Woods US Open Odds Drift
Tuesday 10 June 2008 at 14:13
Tiger Woods US Open golf odds were as short as 5/4 with Ladbrokes a couple of months ago but the betting has changed dramatically since his knee operation.
Now the bookmakers seem keen to try and take some money on the World Number One.
Back Tiger Woods Each Way
They could be overreacting and Woods is now available at 7/2 with Paddy Power, who are paying genberous terms for each way bets of ¼ the odds on 1-2-3-4-5-6 places.
Tiger Woods has now become an attractive each-way wager - When was the last time we could have said that?
Old Rivals
If the intensity of the week wasnt enough in playing a Major and managing a sore knee, Woods has to contend with the inevitable press interest in his relationship with one of his playing partners of the first two days, Phil Mickelson.
Mickelson (8/1 outright with Ladbrokes) is in great form and has finished runner up in three recent US Opens.
The Woods v Mickelson 72 hole match bet should get plenty of interest as a result and Woods is a best priced 4/7 with William Hill. Mickelson is 7/4 with Coral and all firms are 16/1 the tie.
All Star 3-ball
Thursday sees the top three in the world (Woods, Mickelson and Adam Scott) tee off against each other and the three ball betting could be worth a bet.
Woods can be a slow starter but is the favourite of the three at a best priced 5/4 with SkyBet, with Australian Scott the outsider of the party at 7/2 with Paddy Power.
Mickelson is 7/4 to come off best on the first day and that definitely looks worth a bet with Stan James as he could take advantage of a cagey start from Woods.
History Repeats?
Lack of competitive golf since finishing runner up in the US Masters inevitably raises doubts about the fitness of the twice US Open Champion Tiger Woods.
Those doubting that the great man is 100% fit can back him to miss the cut at 6/1 with SkyBet and those who think it's a sure thing for Woods to make the cut can take a chance at 1/25 with Ladbrokes.
However, in 2002 on his first tournament back following knee surgery Woods recorded a victory in the Buick International at this week's venue, Torey Pines and Paddy Power's 7/2 to win the US Open could look a very big price come Sunday night.
