Next Blackburn Manager Betting To Conclude This Week
Tuesday 17 June 2008 at 12:56
With news that Blackburn Chairman John Williams expects to be able to name the Next Blackburn Manager by the end of the week it seems a good time to take a look at the main contenders for the job.
Big Sam Is Favourite
Sam Allardyce is the current favourite for the job at 6/4 with Coral (as short as 10/11 with Paddy Power) despite last week saying
It's very nice to be linked with the job, of course. But at the moment, it's just speculation.
A number of interviews have taken place this week and it seems by his odds he is certainly one of those that has had talks with the club.
This seems a good choice for both club and Big Sam. There is no doubt that Allardyce is a good manager but his style of play suits the less fashionable Premiership clubs. He is eager to get back into management and it looks as though it could be this week that he does so.
Paul Ince Next Best
Ince has gone about his start to football management the hard way, starting at the lower end of the football league. He has done a good job at both Macclesfield and MK Dons and would surely relish the opportunity to manage in the Premiership.
This would come at a good time with Sir Alex Ferguson possibly looking to step down as Manchester United boss in a couple of years and if Ince is to be in the reckoning there he will need to have had some success in the Premiership. He is 6/4 with Stan James to be the Next Blackburn Manager.
Ex England Boss In The Running
The only other person seemingly in with a chance is Steve McClaren who has not worked since being sacked a England manager following his inability to qualify for Euro 08.
McClaren is 6/1 with Coral to get the job and this would probably be the right sort of club to return to. It is doubtful whether this would be a popular choice with the fans and that is likely to count against him.
