Royal Ascot Odds To Favour Fast Ground Horses Despite Weather Forecasts
Friday 20 June 2008 at 10:10
All week there has been talk of heavy rainfall on the Friday of the Royal Ascot meeting. Last year after some good weather for the opening days it absolutely poured down on the Friday and Saturday of the meeting and many hopes of a Royal Ascot win were washed away with the ground changing dramatically.
There had been fears the same would happen again this year but latest forecasts suggest that potential rain has disappeared and connections of fast ground horses can breathe easy.
Wokingham Handicap Odds
One horse that certainly wants it to stay dry is Wokingham Handicap favourite Intrepid Jack who is a 9/1 shot with Paddy Power and SkyBet. He finished second in the race last year despite hating the soft ground and he appears to have a massive chance back on his favoured surface this year.
Golden Jubilee Odds
Saturday's Royal Ascot card also features the Golden Jubilee, a six furlong race Group One. Sakhees Secret is narrowly holding on to favouritism at 4/1 with Paddy Power and Blue Square with Marchand D'or and Takeover Target just behind him in the Golden Jubilee odds, both at 6/1 with Ladbrokes and William Hill. Marchand D'or's form was given a boost when the horse he beat last time out, Equiano, won the Kings Stand on Tuesday. Takeover Target also ran in the Kings Stand on Tuesday and finished a close second.
Coronation Stakes Odds
The feature race of Friday is the Group One Coronation Stakes where Spacious is a well backed favourite. She started the 1000 Guineas at 11/2 and with no Natagora in this race she is well fancied to go one better at 7/2 with Paddy Power. Infallible and Lush Lashes were behind Spacious in the 1000 Guineas and they are 4/1 and 15/2 with Sportingbet and SkyBet respectively.
