Mutajarred Likely To Head John Smiths Cup Odds
Wednesday 09 July 2008 at 15:22
The final declarations for the John Smiths cup will be made on Thursday lunchtime and with Mutajarred guaranteed a run it looks as though the 6/1 shot with Totesport and Coral will go off the favourite.
Collection May Not Get A Run
The current favourite is Royal Ascot winner Collection but he is far from likely to make the cut for the race. He is 9/2 with Stan James and would command plenty of respect in the race if he runs but he needs plenty of horses above him to come out of the race. If he is declared but doesn't make the cut all stakes on him will be refunded.
Mutajarred The Proven Choice
The absence of Collection would leave things open for Mutajarred to take favouritism. He has won twice on heavy so more rain will not be a problem and won his latest start over ten furlongs so stamina is not an issue.
Another Big Handicap On Agenda For Cumani
Of those guaranteed a run if they want to take their place Monte Alto is likely to be popular at 8/1 with Sportingbet and Bet365. Trainer Luca Cumani took the Old Newton Cup last week and looks to have a very good chance here. Most of Monte Alto's racing has taken place on a firmer surface but he has won on good to soft and good or slighter softer should be perfect.
Proponent To Find His Trip
Proponent handles softish ground and ten furlongs will probably be his perfect trip having been campaigned over a mile and a mile and a half this season. He looks a decent price at 8/1 with Paddy Power.
