Harrington Open Championship Odds Drift As He Admits He May Not Finish Thursday 17 July 2008 at 10:23 Defending British Open Champion Padraig Harrington has drifted in the Open Championship betting odds after he said he only has a 50:50 chance of finishing the major.
Wrist Injury Likely To Hamper Harrington
Harrington had been amongst the favourites for the tournament but an injury to his right wrist is stopping him from playing at full capacity and he is now as big as 40/1 with Bet365 and SkyBet. He had little practice yesterday and was quoted in the Telegraph as saying:
I will be apprehensive hitting any shot – I will certainly be apprehensive hitting it in the rough.
Garcia Still Favourite To Give Spain Another Success
The solid favourite for the Open Championship is now Sergio Garcia who is 8/1 with Ladbrokes and Coral. Bookmakers are taking no chances on the Spaniard with Spain winning Euro 2008 and Rafael Nadal winning Wimbledon.
Ernie Els, a previous British Open winner, will be popular at 14/1 with Bet365 and Coral whilst Jim Furyk just about holds third favouritism at 20/1 with Boylesports and Paddy Power.
Home Support With Rose And Westwood
The home crowds are likely to get behind Justin Rose and Lee Westwood and according to the bookmakers it is Westwood who holds the best chance. He is 40/1 with Bet365 and Totesport whilst Rose is 50/1 with Boylesports.
