Celtic And Rangers Set For Tight Battle In SPL Betting Odds But Start Of Season Could Be Delayed
Tuesday 05 August 2008 at 12:49
This week's start of the Scottish Premier League could be delayed due to a strike threat from the Scottish Referee's Association (SRA). The SPL is due to meet the SRA today to try and resolve the situation so that the opening fixtures can go ahead without a hitch.
Bookmakers Can't Split Rangers And Celtic
Bookmakers Blue Square have been unable to split Rangers and Celtic this season and go 5/6 the pair. The 5/6 available on Celtic with Blue Square and SkyBet are the best odds available whilst Rangers can be backed at a best price of even money with Coral and William Hill.
Celtic New Signings
Celtic's main signing has been Georgios Samaras from Manchester City and although he will be labelled an EPL flop he is exactly the sort of striker with an aerial threat who scores plenty of goals in the SPL. Samaras is 14/1 with Paddy Power to be SPL top goalscorer.
Rangers New Signings
Rangers look to have strengthened their side more with signings of Kenny Miller from Derby, Madjid Bougherra from Charlton, Kyle Lafferty from Burnley and Andrius Velicka from Viking. Kenny Miller is 16/1 with Blue Square to be SPL top scorer and Andrius Velicka is 10/1 with Bet365 and SkyBet.
No Challenge For The Old Firm
Aberdeen and Hearts are the sides that are most expected to give the Old Firm a run for their money but with odds of 200/1 available on both with Sportingbet it is hard to see them getting involved in a title fight.
