Venables Rejects Newcastle So Keegan Is Favourite Again
Friday 26 September 2008 at 11:45
Terry Venables went from even money favourite to 16/1 with SkyBet last night after he turned down the Newcastle job due to uncertainty over the club's future. This means Newcastle are back to square one and Kevin Keegan is the favourite to be the Next Newcastle Manager.
Keegan The Popular Choice
Keegan can be backed at 9/4 with SkyBet and is still the man most fans want in charge. Any consortium who buy the club looking to gain favour with the fans would simply appoint Keegan straight away and earn themselves some Brownie points so it is no surprise he is favourite.
Poyet Still Fancied Despite Negative Comments
The second favourite is Gus Poyet who is 7/1 with Blue Square despite repeatedly ruling himself out of the running for the job. It may be more down to look of suitable candidates than anything else that he is still so prominent in the betting.
O'Leary Backed Again For Job
David O'Leary was backed into 15/2 third favourite with Paddy Power following the news about Venables and this is the second time he has been gambled in on the past couple of weeks. It looks as though Newcastle could now turn to O'Leary for a short term manager and this would give him a chance to demonstrate his ability for the job full time.
Shearer Could Make Return To Toon
Gerard Houllier and Alan Shearer were also punted yesterday. The ex Liverpool manager is 12/1 with SkyBet and Totesport whilst Shearer is down to 14/1 with Blue Square. Maybe new owners will go for a dream team of Keegan and Shearer in charge?
