Manchester United And Arsenal Dominate Carling Cup Betting Ahead Of 5th Round
Tuesday 02 December 2008 at 12:43
Manchester United are the favourites for Carling Cup glory this season although some bookies cannot separate United from Arsenal in the betting and go joint favourites.
Manchester United Have Good Draw To Reach Semi
Manchester United, who struggled past QPR in the last round, face Blackburn at Old Trafford on Wednesday night and are 2/1 with Ladbrokes and Blue Square to win the Carling Cup despite it being bottom of Manchester United's current priorities. United are unlikely to field a full strength side against Blackburn but the poor away from of Rovers is likely to mean United will justify their price of 4/7 with William Hill and win the match to book a semi final place.
Arsenal Kids Are Stronger Than Ever
Arsenal, who are joint favourites with Blue Square, are not fancied by Coral who go a stand out price of 11/4 on the Gunners. Arsenal, who as usual have played the kids in this competition, travel to Turf Moor to play Burnley tonight, a match in which they are 4/5 with SkyBet and Coral. This year's kids look better than ever so it would be no surprise to see them go all the way, or reach the final at least.
Repeat Win Could Be On The Cards For Spurs
Last year's winners, Tottenham Hotspur, are 7/2 with Ladbrokes for a repeat win. They take on Watford at Vicarage road on Wednesday night and they are a big price at 8/11 with Coral and Ladbrokes to win the match. Both prices look worth taking with Spurs the strongest side in the competition who will actually put a full strength side out. Retention of the trophy could well be on the cards.
Blackburn And Stoke Unfancied For Cup
The two remaining Premiership teams in the Carling Cup are Blackburn and Stoke who are 14/1 with SkyBet and 14/1 with Boylesports respectively. As previously mentioned, Blackburn face a tough task away at Manchester United but Stoke have a relatively easy game at home to Derby who just 15th place in the Championship.
With a semi final place looking pretty much assured it is not a bad idea to back Stoke at 14/1 with Boylesports. If they go through the price will shorten and if with Manchester United, Arsenal or Spurs slip up the price will shorten plenty.
Southern Club Most Likely To Lift Cup
Ladbrokes are betting on what region will provide the winner. A southern winner, which is either Spurs, Arsenal or Watford is 5/6, a northern winner which is either Manchester United, Blackburn or Burnley is 6/5 with Ladbrokes and a midlands winner, which is either Stoke or Derby is 7/1. Each group will have at least one representative in the semi final.
