Gerard Houllier Next Sunderland Manager Odds Continue To Drop But Big Sam Still Favourite
Thursday 11 December 2008 at 11:22
The gamble on Gerard Houllier becoming the Next Sunderland Manager has continued over the past couple of days but he has still not been able to knock Big Sam Allardyce off the favourite spot.
Houllier Gamble Continues
We highlighted a few days ago that there was a big gamble taking place on Gerard Houllier and it has not stopped, he is now as short 5/2 with one bookmaker but Ladbrokes and VC Bet are still offering 5/1. Today's newspapers have suggested he could be top of the shortlist and is desperate to manage in the Premiership again so expect the money for Houllier to continue. He should be favourite by the weekend.
Big Sam Has Been Favourite For A Week Now
Sam Allardyce is still the favourite to become the Next Sunderland Manager but he is now as big as 2/1 with Paddy Power and Bet365. He has never been the most fashionable choice for jobs but there are few doubts about his management skills and he would be a decent appointment.
Martin Jol Backed For Premier Return
Another manager who has been very well backed over the past couple of days is ex Spurs boss Martin Jol. He has come in from 66/1 to be as short as 10/1 but Paddy Power are holding firm at 14/1. He has not been at Hamburg long and is doing a good job so it is not clear whether or not he would quit that for Sunderland.
Could The Caretaker Be Given The Job?
Other names who have been backed recently are Ally McCoist who is now 25/1 with Bet365 and Ricky Sbragia who is 28/1 with Paddy Power but as short as 14/1 with Blue Square and Ladbrokes. The latter is interesting as he has been steadily backed for a while now and being the caretaker boss of Sunderland means he has a chance to prove himself for the job. Almost snatching a draw against Manchester United last week won't have done his chances too much harm.
