Avram Grant Backed In Next Sunderland Manager Betting As Houllier Says No
Friday 12 December 2008 at 12:02
Gerard Houllier has reportedly told French television that he is not interested in becoming the Next Sunderland Manager and as a result his odds have drifted. It seems the Frenchman ruling himself out is good news for at least one candidate.
Avram Grant Looking Main Contender
Avram Grant has been the subject of a gamble in the last 24 hours and his price is now as short as 5/1 with Coral and Ladbrokes despite being as big as 22/1 this time yesterday. The best price Grant can be backed at is 13/2 with Bet365 and it seems as though he is top of the shortlist judging by the betting patterns.
Houllier And Curbishley Drift In Betting
After Houllier told French TV ‘No, I'm not interested' he drifted out to 10/1 with VC Bet. Another manager on the drift is Alan Curbishley who had been second favourite but is now out to 8/1 with Paddy Power and Bet365.
Ally McCoist Looking Popular With The Punters
Ally McCoist has been one of the best backed managers this week and he is now down to 10/1 with Coral as the gamble continues. He was 50/1 two days ago and still 40/1 with one bookie yesterday but it seems some punters are willing to back him whatever the price. This is a serious move for the Rangers Assistant Manager and he is surely one of a few names on a shortlist.
Sam Allardyce Clings Onto Favouritism
Despite all these gambles for other managers, Sam Allardyce is still the favourite to take over the reigns at the Stadium of Light. He is out to 5/2 with Bet365 but he is still the favourite to take over. It is thought that Niall Quinn would prefer a homegrown manager and that will work in Big Sam's favour.
