Heath Ledger Hot Favourite To Win Golden Globe For Joker Role In The Dark Knight
Tuesday 16 December 2008 at 12:37
Heath Ledger is strongly expected to win the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor on January 11 and bookies are offering very short odds that the actor, who died before the film was released, will emerge victorious.
Heath Ledger Odds On To Win As The Joker
Paddy Power are offering 1/5 that Legder wins the Golden Globes Supporting Actor Award. The actor died of an accidental prescription drugs overdose and it is thought he is so certain to win the award that arguments are already erupting over who will accept the award on his behalf.
Oscar Winner Philip Seymour Hoffman Is Second Favourite
If you think that Ledger's amazing performance in The Dark Knight won't win the award then check out the odds on Philip Seymour Hoffman for his role in Doubt. He can be backed at 10/1 with Bet365 to win the Golden Globe. Hoffman is no stranger to big awards, he picked up the Oscar for Best Leading Actor in Capote in 2006.
Topic Thunder Gains Two Nominations For Actors
War spoof Tropic Thunder has managed to generate two of the nominations in this category, Robert Downey Jr is 14/1 with Bet365 and Tom Cruise is 18/1 with Bet365. Both performances were very good and different from the roles you usually associate from the duo but it would be a big surprise if they were able to defeat Ledger's portrayal of The Joker.
Ralph Fiennes Picks Up Fourth Golden Globe Nomination
The remaining nominee is Ralph Fiennes for his role in The Duchess. Fiennes is 14/1 with Bet365 and although he is a favourite of the critics, again it would be a big shock if he gains the award ahead of Ledger.
