Gus Poyet Hot Favourite In Next Leeds United Manager Betting Odds
Monday 22 December 2008 at 10:35
After Dennis Wise was sacked yesterday morning following seven losses in nine games Gus Poyet was installed as the favourite to take over his reigns. Since then it has looked a two horse race with the punters backing just Poyet and one other candidate to be the Next Leeds Utd Manager.
Punters Can't Get Enough Of Poyet
Gus Poyet had been backed from 7/1 into 5/2 to become the Next Leeds Utd Manager before McAllister had even been sacked. He is now odds on with most bookies but he can still be backed at even money with SkyBet. Poyet may see a return to Elland Road as the ideal way to rebuild his reputation after what has to be described as a disappointing stint at Tottenham.
Boothroyd Another Popular Choice
The other candidate that the punters are backing is former Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd. He was sacked earlier this season after a poor start but had previously done a very good job at Vicarage Road. Boothroyd is now 7/2 second favourite with SkyBet and as a young manager he could be a good choice for a long term appointment.
Two More Young Managers In The Frame
The press have also been keen to link Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson (son of Sir Alex) to the post this morning. Ferguson is 8/1 joint second favourite with SkyBet, alongside MK Dons manager Roberto Di Matteo. The Italian only just joined MK Dons in the summer so it is unclear whether he would leave them after such a short stay.
Billy Davies Could Rebuild Reputation
The first experienced manager in the betting is Billy Davies, a 10/1 shot with SkyBet. Davies did a great job to get Derby County into the Premiership but he was a victim of his own success as they were clearly not up to playing Premiership football. He remains a talented manager.
Former Leeds Players And Managers Linked As Well As Paul Ince
Gary Speed, a former Leeds player, is 25/1 with SkyBet whilst Paul Ince, who was recently sacked as Blackburn manager is 16/1 with SkyBet. To see the odds on David O'Leary or Dennis Wise returning as manager of Leeds United and to see what other names are being linked with the job visit the SkyBet website. The Next Leeds Utd Manager market can be found under Football, Speciality Markets and then Manager Specials.
