Manchester United Still Favourites In Carling Cup Odds Despite Derby Loss
Thursday 08 January 2009 at 10:32
Manchester United are still the club most likely to lift the Carling Cup next month according to the bookies despite losing 1-0 to Derby County at Pride Park last night.
Manchester United Need To Win By Two Goals
Manchester United can be backed at 4/5 with Bet365 and Stan James to win the Carling Cup and they are expected to overturn the one goal deficit when they face Derby at Old Trafford in two weeks time. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has promised that he will stick with the kids that have got United this far in the competition so don't expect all the big guns to be playing in the second leg.
Spurs Have More Than One Foot In Final
Spurs look like they are through to the final after beating Burnley 4-1 in their first leg at White Hart Lane. It was not a great performance, especially in the first half, but the odds of 11/8 with SkyBet are fully justified. Spurs are the only side in the competition that are pretty much certain to be in the final.
Derby Hold Upperhand Against United
Derby County were 28/1 to win the Carling Cup before last night's game but their 1-0 win gives them a realistic chance of being in the final. They will just be disappointed that they didn't convert more of their chances. They are just 16/1 with Coral and Boylesports to win the competition now and that price looks about right.
Burnley Face Uphill Struggle
Burnley are the complete outsiders and the fact they are 125/1 with SkyBet speaks volumes about their chances. They need to win 3-0 or better against Spurs to go through and whilst that isn't impossible, it is certainly improbable.
