Best Actor Betting Has Mickey Rourke As Favourite After Oscars Nominations
Friday 23 January 2009 at 12:17
Mickey Rourke, who has had somewhat of a career resurrection due to Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler, is the favourite to win the Best Actor at this year's Oscars after the nominations were made on Thursday. Are there better bets out there though?
Mickey Rourke Puts In Career Best Performance
Mickey Rourke is exceptional in The Wrestler, a story of a former big time wrestler struggling to make a living on the independent circuit. He shows an emotional range that has never been seen before from Rourke and it is no surprise he is favourite having won the Golden Globe for best actor. We actually tipped him to defeat the favourite Sean Penn that day and he is now the favourite in the Oscars Best Actor betting at evens with SkyBet and Ladbrokes.
Sean Penn Looks A Good Bet
The Oscars often go for a classier performance and we think Sean Penn in Milk can reverse Golden Globe form by winning the Oscar for Best Actor. He can be backed at 7/4 with Bet365, Paddy Power and William Hill and he looks a really good bet. He plays Harvey Milk, California's first openly gay elected official, who is eventually assassinated. Penn is being well backed so bets should be placed sooner rather than later.
Will The Best Actor Cry?
Another actor who has been well backed is Frank Langella for his role in Frost/Nixon where he plays Richard Nixon. He can be backed at 8/1 with Paddy Power and Stan James. The other nominees are Brad Pitt (16/1 Bet365) for The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button and Richard Jenkins (20/1 Ladbrokes) for The Visitor. SkyBet are offering 4/1 that the winner of the Best Actor Oscar cries on stage during his acceptance speech.
