Punters Backing Sean Penn To Win Best Actor In Oscars Odds
Monday 26 January 2009 at 12:56
Sean Penn could be the favourite to win Best Actor at the Oscars by the time the ceremony comes around next month. Mickey Rourke is the current favourite but there is reason to believe he won't win the Oscar for Best Actor and that he won't even by favourite.
Rourke Still Holding On To Favouritism
Mickey Rourke won the Golden Globe for Best Actor earlier this month as second favourite and ever since then he has been the favourite to win the Oscar for Best Actor. He can be backed at 11/10 with SkyBet but he is odds on with most bookies. He does a great job as Randy ‘The Ram' Robinson in The Wrestler but we feel the judges might go for something a bit classier.
Sean Penn To Gain Revenge Over Rourke For Golden Globes?
Sean Penn, overlooked as favourite for Best Actor in the Golden Globes betting, is now the second favourite to win the Oscar for Best Actor at 7/4 with Stan James and Sportingbet. He is much shorter with all over bookies and SkyBet even have 11/10 joint favourites. Penn has been very well backed over the last week to win the Oscar for his portrayal of Harvey Milk, San Francisco's first openly gay elected official. H elooks a good bet to land the Oscar.
Frank Langella A Credible Candidate
It seems the only other actor who might trouble the top two in the betting is Frank Langella who played Richard Nixon is Frost/Nixon which is directed by Ron Howard. Langella is 8/1 with Ladbrokes to land the Oscar for Best Actor.
Two Outsiders For Best Actor Include Brad Pitt
The two outsiders are Brad Pitt and Ricahrd Jenkins. Brad Pitt is nominated for The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button and he can be backed at 22/1 with Bet365 and Paddy Power. Richard Jenkins has been nominated for his role in The Visitor where he plays a college professor who finds illegal immigrants living in his apartment. Jenkins is 35/1 with Bet365.
