X Factor Winner And Girls Aloud Up For Best Single At The Brit Awards
Tuesday 27 January 2009 at 11:12
X Factor winner Alexandra Burke and her mentor Cheryl Cole's group Girls Aloud are going head to head in the battle to win Best British Single at the Brits. They both face a tough battle though as some of the top British bands are represented in the nominations.
Coldplay Set To Dominate Brits
The favourites to win are Coldplay with their single Viva La Vida. The song was used to promote their album, which goes by the same name. It was highly successful and it is no surprise that it is the 9/4 favourite with Paddy Power to win Best Single.
Duffy Nominated For Debut Single
The second favourite is Duffy with her debut song Mercy. The song really put Duffy on the map and is likely to start a very long and successful career for the Welsh singer who has been compared to Lulu. Mercy is 11/4 with Paddy Power.
Alexandra Burke v Cheryl Cole
Alexandra Burke and Girls Aloud are third and fourth favourites respectively for songs Hallelujah and The Promise. Hallelujah was a massive hit, as most X Factor debut songs are, and it was also Christmas Number One. Hallelujah is 4/1 with Paddy Power whilst The Promise, which was a slight change in style for Girls Aloud, is 5/1 with Paddy Power.
