Premiership Relegation Odds For Portsmouth Cut Again After Another Loss
Tuesday 03 February 2009 at 12:16
This is the most open Premiership season ever as far as relegation is concerned with just five points covering the bottom nine clubs. It seems that Portsmouth are doing their best to get relegated though, they have gained just two wins in fourteen league games under Tony Adams.
Portsmouth Looking Likely For Drop
As a result of Pompey's poor form they are now just 9/4 to be relegated with SkyBet and Ladbrokes. They have slipped to within one point of the relegation zone and they are one of the few sides in the bottom half that are regularly coming away from each game with no points. The 9/4 available looks good value.
Stoke And Bolton Gain Vital Victories
Stoke and Bolton were the only relegation candidates to win at the weekend, Stoke are still 8/13 second favourites to go down with Bet365 despite climbing out of the relegation zone after defeating Man City. Bolton have moved up to twelfth after beating Spurs and are now looking much safer, they are 7/1 with Coral to go down.
Point Apiece For Many
Many of the bottom sides drew this weekend leaving it ‘as you were' for several clubs. West Brom (1/2 Bet365) remain bottom and favourites to go down having drawn against Hull City, who are on a downward spiral and are now 11/4 with SkyBet and VC Bet to go down. Newcastle (5/2 SkyBet), Blackburn (6/1 Ladbrokes) and Middlesbrough (9/4 SkyBet) are still all in trouble and all picked up a point at the weekend.
Best Relegation Bets
With the table so tightly congested there is plenty of value to be had in the Premiership relegation betting. The best bets for value at this stage in the season are Portsmouth whoare 9/4 with SkyBet and Ladbrokes, Newcastle who are 5/2 with SkyBet and the best bet of all, Middlesbrough who are 9/4 with SkyBet. Middlesbrough have not won in twelve league games and with a young squad they are likely to lack the character and experience for a relegation dog fight.
