Best Director At Oscars Ceremony Certain To Be Danny Boyle For Slumdog Millionaire
Tuesday 03 February 2009 at 12:38
Danny Boyle is the scorching hot favourite to follow up his Golden Globes with an Oscar for best director at this year's Oscars ceremony, due to take place in less than three weeks time.
Danny Boyle In Good Position To Win First Academy Award
Danny Boyle has never even been nominated for an Oscar before but he is the 1/4 favourite with Bet365, Paddy Power and SkyBet to win Best Director. Even at those odds punters are still backing him to win the award so it seems pretty certain that he will win. Slumdog Millionaire is an unusual story about a boy accused of cheating on the Hindi version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and it is a brilliantly told and directed story.
David Fincher Only Other Possible
It seems a two horse race at best with only one other director with a single figure price. David Fincher is the second favourite and can be backed for Best Director at 5/1 with Stan James, Coral and Sportingbet. Fincher is now stranger to critical acclaim, he directed Fight Club and Seven, but The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button has taken his reputation to a whole new level.
Throw A Blanket Over The Remaining Three
Betting is tight between the remaining nominees. Gus Van Sant is 16/1 with Stan James and Ladbrokes for Milk. He is probably best known for Good Will Hunting which won two Oscars. Also up are Ron Howard who is 22/1 with Bet365 and Stan James for Frost/Nixon and Stephen Daldry who is 25/1 with Stan James for The Reader.
Other Betting Opportunites
There are plenty of interesting Oscars bets out there, we strongly fancy Sean Penn to get the better of Mickey Rourke and win Best Actor at 11/8 with Stan James. Heath Ledger looks a cert to win Best Supporting Actor and is 1/20 with Paddy Power whilst Slumdog Millionaire should win Best Film at 1/4 with Ladbrokes and Blue Square.
