BAFTA Awards Betting Round Up Shows The Likely Winners And Losers
Friday 06 February 2009 at 12:27
The BAFTA Awards take place this Sunday and there could be several good bets on offer. At the very least we can gain an insight into what is likely to win and what isn't by looking at who is favourite for each award.
Slumdog Millionaire Set To Clean Up
Brit Danny Boyle is certain to win Best Director, he is 1/16 with Paddy Power to win for Slumdog Millionaire. Slumdog Millionaire is even shorter in the best film category, it is 1/20 with Paddy Power whilst it is also favourite for Outstanding British Film, it can be backed at 4/5 with Paddy Power. Dev Patel is in the betting for Best Actor for the film but he is an outsider at 9/1 with Paddy Power. Mickey Rourke is expected to win Best Actor for The Wrestler, he is 8/11 with Paddy Power.
Kate Winslet Has Two Chances Of Winning Best Actress
Kate Winslet has the rare honour of being both favourite and second favourite for Best Actress. She is 4/6 with Paddy Power to win the award for her performance in the Reader, for which she has an Oscar nomination. Winslet is 7/4 with Paddy Power to win the BAFTA for her performance in Revolutionary Road, directed by husband Sam Mendes. Meryl Streep is the only other realistic contender, she is 6/1 with Paddy Power for her role in Doubt.
Heath Ledger Due Another Award
The late Heath Ledger is likely to win Best Supporting Actor for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight. He is 1/10 favourite with Paddy Power. Brad Pitt, who stars in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, is up for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the Coen Brothers' Burn After Reading. He is the outsider at 25/1 with Paddy Power.
Michael Cera Likely To Win Rising Star Award
Finally Michael Cera, star of Superbad and Juno, is the odds on favourite to win the Orange Rising Star Award. He can be backed at 10/11 with Paddy Power, whilst Rebecca Hall is 7/2 with Paddy Power and Noel Clarke is 5/1.
