Next Portsmouth Manager Odds Show Likely New Boss After Tony Adams Sacked
Monday 09 February 2009 at 10:07
As we predicted last week, Tony Adams has lost his job as Portsmouth manager. He was a short price to do so and it is no surprise after just two Premiership wins in sixteen games. A quick look at the lets us know who is likely to be appointed the Next Portsmouth Manager.
Portsmouth Could Make Same Mistakes Again
Portsmouth seemingly made a mistake by promoting their assistant manager Adams to number one in late October. Will they make they same mistake again by going for someone unproven? Joe Jordan, former first team coach at Portsmouth, now Tottenham's first team coach, is the third favourite to land the job at 12/1 with VC Bet. Another unproven manager with a Spurs link is Gus Poyet, who was sacked alongside Juande Ramos in late October leading to Redknapp's appointment at Spurs. Poyet is 14/1 with Blue Square to be the Next Portsmouth Manager.
Avram Grant Looks The Ideal Choice
The favourite to get the Pompey job is Avram Grant. He can be backed at William Hill and VC Bet but he is much shorter elsewhere so those odds should be taken quickly. Everything makes sense about Grant, he knows the club well having been Director of Football there before moving to Chelsea and he already has a relationship with the Chairman. His feat of finishing runners up to Manchester United in both the Premiership and Champions League looks pretty good now with Chelsea languishing in fourth place.
Alan Curbishley A Strong Contender
The other manager being strongly linked with the now vacant manager's position at Fratton Park is Alan Curbishley. Punters wishing to back Curbs are advised to take the 4/1 available with Blue Square, he is as short as 7/4 with VC Bet. Alan Curbishley has a proven record of getting the best out of ‘limited' squads and the current Portsmouth side certainly look a lot better than the Charlton side he regularly achieved mid table finishes with a few years back.
Five Ex England Managers In The Running
There are several ex England managers being linked with the job, Sven Goran Eriksson is 14/1 with VC Bet, Glenn Hoddle is 20/1 with VC Bet, Terry Venables is 20/1 with Paddy Power, Kevin Keegan is 33/1 with VC Bet and Steve McLaren is 33/1 with VC Bet. To see who else is being linked with the job and to find out their odds visit either the VC Bet, SkyBet or Blue Square websites.
