Betting Odds Suggest Who Will Be The Chelsea Manager Next Season After Guus Hiddink
Wednesday 11 February 2009 at 10:57
With Guus Hiddink set to become the temporary manager of Chelsea this week, the bookies are already turning their attention to who will be in charge of Chelsea at the start of next season.
Will Guus Get The Job Full Time?
Guus Hiddink, expected to combine his role as Russia manager with the Chelsea job for the rest of the season, is the favourite to earn a full time contract. It is expected that Roman Abramovich will attempt to persuade Hiddink to take the job on a long term contract in the summer and as a result he is the 5/4 favourite with Ladbrokes (evens with SkyBet) to be in charge at the start of next season.
Zola And Ancelotti Can't Be Separated By Bookies
SkyBet make Italian pair Gianfranco Zola and Carlo Ancelotti the joint 5/1 second favourites. By waiting until the summer it would give Chelsea more time to see if Zola's revival of West Ham is a short lived effort or if it seems they are likely to be a force to be reckoned with under the Chelsea favourite. Zola certainly seems more likely than Ancelotti who has no doubt turned down many overtures over the past couple of seasons, possibly including Chelsea's.
Rijkaard And Mancini Both Available
Frank Rijkaard and Roberto Mancini are both available now and it is probably a bad sign for the pair that Chelsea are making a short term appointment as they could just as easily have appointed either Rijkaard or Mancini without the need to sort out compensation. Rijkaard is 7/1 with SkyBet to land the job in the summer and be in charge at the start of next season and Mancini is 12/1.
Will Jose Return?
The name most Chelsea fans want back is Jose Mourinho and he is just 8/1 with SkyBet to be appointed Next Chelsea Manager in the summer. Another interesting return could be from Avram Grant, who is 12/1 with SkyBet to land the job in the summer. To find out the odds on Marco Van Basten, Roberto Di Matteo or Ruud Gullit being in charge at the start of next season and to see who else could get the job visit the SkyBet website, you will find the market under Football, Speciality Markets and Manager Specials.
