Next Pompey Manager Betting Points To Sven Goran Eriksson Or Avram Grant
Thursday 12 February 2009 at 10:42
With Chelsea sorting out their managerial situation in a matter of days the pressure is on the Portsmouth Chairman to make a quick appointment. It seems there are two outstanding candidates to become Next Portsmouth Manager, Sven Goran Eriksson and Avram Grant.
Sven Set For Another Return To England?
Sven is the general favourite, he can be backed at 9/4 with SkyBet although he is as short as 5/4 with Coral. Sven has so far played his cards close to his chest but after losing to USA in a vital World Cup Qualifying match on Wednesday he could be facing the sack this week and that would open the door for a quick appointment at Fratton Park.
Avram Misses Out On Chelsea
Avram Grant is well known to Portsmouth fans, he was the Director of Football at the club three years ago, before moving to Chelsea to take up the same role initially. Grant is 3/1 with Bet365 and Coral to be the Next Portsmouth Manager and it seems the appointment of Grant would be somewhat a coup. With Grant now having no chance of getting the Chelsea job, to which he was strongly linked, he might see Portsmouth as his best route back into management.
Curbs And Keane The Other Two Fancies
Only two other managers have a single figure price, Alan Curbishley who has been a contender all along and Roy Keane who has been well backed over the past couple of days. Curbs is 8/1 with Bet365 but much shorter elsewhere. It is thought he would sacrifice a major payoff from West Ham if he takes a job before his issue with his former club are settled so he may have to wait a bit longer before returning to management. Keane has been backed from 40/1 into as short as 3/1 with Ladbrokes but SkyBet go a stand out 8/1.
Another Internal Appointment For Pompey?
Other managers who could still get the job include current caretaker boss Paul Hart who is 8/1 with Paddy Power and newly appointed assistant to Paul Hart, Bryan Kidd who is 33/1 with SkyBet.
