Best Actor Betting At The Oscars Looks Different After Mickey Rourke Wins BAFTA
Tuesday 17 February 2009 at 12:49
It had looked as though Mickey Rourke was going to lose his place at the head of the Oscars Best Actor betting odds until he scooped the BAFTA for best actor.
Mickey Rourke Looking To Make It An Awards Hat Trick
Mickey Rourke is currently the hot favourite to win Best Actor at the Oscars for his role in The Wrestler as Randy The Ram Robinson. He is being backed at just 4/7 with Bet365 and Blue Square. If he wins the Oscar he will be adding it to his existing Golden Globe and BAFTA award that he won for the same performance. The critics certainly seem to have enjoyed it as much s movie goers.
Sean Penn Still Looks A Good Bet To Surprise Many
The second favourite, Sean Penn, who is 2/1 with William Hill to land the Oscar, had been starting to dispute favouritism with Rourke until The Wrestler star won his BAFTA. Penn, who stars as Harvey Milk in the film Milk puts in a brilliant performance and if the Academy choose something a bit classier than the Wrestler for the award, which is entirely possible, he is likely to be a great bet at 2/1 with William Hill.
Will Frank Langella Cause An Upset?
There is one more realistic name in the frame for Best Actor and that is Frank Langella who is priced up at 12/1 with Bet365. Langella is as short as 7/1 with Blue Square so the price of 12/1 with Bet365 certainly looks good value. Frank Langella plays Richard Nixon in Ron Howard's film Front/Nixon which is up for Oscars Best Picture.
Brad Pitt Nominated For Best Actor
The other two actors up for the award for Best Actor at the Oscars are Brad Pitt and Richard Jenkins. Pitt is 33/1 with SkyBet and Stan James to win for his role in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button whilst Jenkins is 66/1 with Paddy Power to win for his performance in The Visitor.
