Monday 02 March 2009 at 11:24
Nobel Peace Prize 2009 Betting has been extremely popular over the last few years and Irish bookie Paddy Power are already offering a market on this year's award which will be handed out in October.
Same Favourite As Last Year
They make Hu Jia the favourite to win the Nobel Peace Prize and he can be backed at 5/1 with Paddy Power. Hu Jia was favourite to win last year also but it eventually went to Martti Ahtisaari. Hu Jia is a Chinese dissident and considering he was so well backed last year his odds could shorten dramatically again this year making him a good bet at this stage.
Thich Quang Do A Solid Candidate
Another who was well thought of last year was Thich Quang Do, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk. Paddy Power are offering odds of 6/1 on Thich Quang Do winning the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
Barack Obama And Tony Blair In The Running
Other names prominent in the betting include Ingrid Betancourt (8/1 Paddy Power), Greg Mortenson (14/1 Paddy Power) and Pete Seeger (16/1 Paddy Power). More well known names include American President Barack Obama who is 18/1 with Paddy Power and former Prime Minister Tony Blair who is 33/1 with Paddy Power. To find out the odds on Bob Geldof, Bono, Greenpeace, or even George Bush winning the prize, visit the Paddy Power website and look under Novelty Bets.
