Premiership Relegation Odds Make West Brom And Middlesbrough Look Doomed
Thursday 05 March 2009 at 11:40
Premiership Relegation Betting Odds suggest that there is no chance of West Brom staying up and little chance of Middlesbrough beating the drop. The relegation picture seems to have been narrowed down to six or seven teams now and correctly guessing which ones go down will be very profitable.
West Brom Need A Miracle
West Brom are six points from safety, have the worst goal difference in the league and have conceded twenty goals in eight games. They simply can't defend at the moment and at 1/9 with Ladbrokes and William Hill to go down they can still be considered value as they need nothing short of a miracle.
Stoke A Good Bet To Survive
Stoke are second favourites for the drop at 11/10 with Ladbrokes which is a little surprising considering they have two points to spare and are one of the few teams picking up points at the moment. They have picked up eight points from their last five games which certainly isn't relegation form. They are 5/6 with Coral and Boylesports to stay up.
Boro, Newcastle And Hull Should All be Worried
Much stronger candidates for the drop at the moment are Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Hull, all of whom have been very poor recently. Middlesbrough are two points from safety and are 11/8 with SkyBet and Blue Square and a win over Liverpool last week doesn't disguise the fact they have picked up just eight points in fifteen games. Newcastle's poor form has gone somewhat unnoticed but they have won just once in ten games and are now one point from the drop zone. They are a good bet at 15/8 with Stan James and SkyBet to be relegated.
Hull have just one win in twelve games after a great start and only Boro have a worse recent record. Hull are value at 10/3 to go down with Bet365.
Things Looking Better For Pompey
That leaves just Portsmouth who are in real danger of going down but since Tony Adams was sacked things have improved. In Paul Hart's three games in charge he has beaten Man City, been unlucky to only get a draw against Stoke and gone down narrowly against Chelsea. They are picking up results but the bookies still make them 3/1 (Bet365) to go down.
