Scottish Grand National Runners And Odds 2009
Monday 13 April 2009 at 11:06
The Scottish Grand National takes place this Saturday at Ayr and there are several lightly raced types near the head of the market but the best bet could still be a horse who is yet to win over fences in seventeen runs!
Chief Dan George The Hot Favourite
Chief Dan George, who has had just five runs over fences in his career and has never finished out of the first three is the favourite for the Scottish Grand National and can be backed at 8/1 with Bet365, Paddy Power, SkyBet and Coral. The likely good ground will be no problem and he looks a very solid favourite.
Possibly The Best Bet In The Race
There are joint second favourites in the shape of Nine De Sivola and Tricky Trickster, both of whom are 10/1 with Bet365, Paddy Power and SkyBet. Nine De Sivola has a nasty habit of finishing second and is yet to win in seventeen chase starts but he did finish second in the race two years ago and bounced back to form with a great run at Cheltenham last time out. Tricky Trickster finished ten lengths ahead of Nine De Sivola in that race but Nine De Sivola will be much better off at the weights and could reverse form.
Other Fancied Runners
The rest of the fancied runners are all very closely matched in the betting. There are three horses that are on 12/1 with the bookies, they are West End Rocker who is 12/1 with Bet365 and William Hill, Merigo who is 12/1 with Paddy Power and Sportingbet and Russian Trigger who is 12/1 with Bet365 and SkyBet. Merigo is interesting having won at Ayr twice but he may prefer the ground a little softer.
Parsons Legacy Interesting On Fast Ground
One who is interesting at a big price is Parsons Legacy who finished a close third two years ago in the race. He ran well for a long way in the Aintree Grand National before falling and on his favoured fast ground he could run very well at 25/1 with Paddy Power and SkyBet.
