Zurich Classic Of New Orleans Betting And News
Tuesday 21 April 2009 at 17:15
The betting for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans is dominated by three in-form players: Kenny Perry, Nick Watney and Steve Stricker.
Perry On Comeback Trail After Masters Heartbreak
Kenny Perry would look the obvious choice this week purely on current form figures – he has played in ten tournaments this season so far and recorded a win at the FBR Open in February and five other top tens – an excellent 2009 record and one that sees him currently stand at third place overall in the FedEx Cup standings.
Perrys last outing was at the US Masters where he held a two shot lead with two holes to play but ended up losing out to Angel Cabrera in an eventful play-off.
It remains to be seen how much that loss has taken out of him mentally, especially as his record in this event is not outstanding. His supporters can be assured he will want to put the events at Augusta behind him as soon as possible and he is a best priced 14/1 with Bet365, Boylesports and Stan James to be victorious this week.
Consistent Stricker Makes Eleventh Consecutive Visit To New Orleans
This must be a favourite tournament for Steve Stricker as he has played in the event for the last ten seasons and he has made the top twenty on five of those occasions.
Stricker, like Perry, has impressive current form with a 2nd, Tied 3rd, and a Tied 4th finishes since the start of the season. Added to that he finished Tied 6th at the US Masters on his last outing and he looks sure to give another good account of himself this week. He is a best priced 18/1 with VC Bet.
Watney Can Take Second Zurich Title
Nick Watney can lay claim to be the most improved player on Tour this season with a win at the prestigious Buick Invitational and a runner up spot at WGC CA Championship but the factor that makes him an attractive bet this week is that he has already won at this course, winning the Zurich Classic here in 2007.
The combination of current and course form makes Watney a good bet in New Orleans at 16/1 with a number of bookmakers, including Stan James and Betfred.
