World Snooker Championship Odds Dominated By OSullivan
Thursday 23 April 2009 at 16:33
The betting for the Snooker World Championship has for a number of years been primarily focused on the form and attitude of one man: Ronnie O'Sullivan
O'Sullivan Seeks Fourth World Title
Ronnie O'Sullivan looked the obvious choice at the start of the week and nothing in his 10-5 defeat of Stuart Bingham would worry his ante-post supporters. He is now a general price of 7/4 to win the tournament and that price is generally available including with Paddy Power, Stan James and the tournament sponsor, Betfred
O'Sullivan made three breaks of one hundred or over in his first round victory and looked in good form, although his comments after the match about the tournament “going on longer than the Olympics” may give hope to those people thinking of backing his opponents.
It's no secret that O'Sullivan can occasionally struggle with his concentration and there looks still to be plenty of value left in the prices of some of his rivals.
O'Sullivan begins his second round match with Mark Allen this evening and he is 2/9 with Coral and Allen is 4/1 with Betfred.
Bookies Make Maguire and Selby Biggest Threats to OSullivan
Stephen Maguire is second favourite for this event with most bookmakers and at the time of writing he is mid-way through his first round match with Jamie Burnett.
Maguire will be keen to improve his record at the Crucible and is currently 7/1 to lift the trophy with Coral and Boylesports
Challenging Maguire for second favouritism is Mark Selby. The former World Eight Ball Pool Champion has moved on to bigger and better things and is now one of the top snooker players in the world and was runner-up in this event in 2007. Selby is a best priced 9/1 with Sportingbet to win the title and he faces 2006 Champion Graeme Dott in Round Two.
Robertson Can Spring Surprise If He Can Get Past Carter
Those wanting a more speculative wager could take a chance on Neil Robertson . The Australian player undoubtedly has the talent and has won a ranking event in 2006, 2007 and 2008, his latest victory coming in November in Bahrain.
He faces a tough second round match against 2008 runner-up Ali Carter but if he could get through that game he would have a very good chance of making the final and at 20/1 looks a great bet. Robertson is currently 20/1 with Bet365.
