Ricky Hatton V Manny Pacquiao Betting And News
Saturday 25 April 2009 at 11:56
Ricky Hatton fights Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas on May 2nd and the Manchester boxer remains one of the UK's most popular sportsmen but he will be the underdog here against the fighter rated the best pound for pound boxer in the world.
Hatton Believes He Is Underrated By Pacquiao Camp
Ricky Hatton has recently stated that he believes that the connections of Manny Pacquiao are seriously underrating him in Las Vegas with Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach claiming that his fighter will stop Hatton in three rounds.
Whilst Pacquiao's claims are strong Hatton did appear to be back to his best in defeating Paul Malignaggi in November and it would be a mistake to think this is going to be an easy fight for the man from the Phillipines.
Weight Is The Key To Hatton Performance
Hatton is rated the eighth best pound for pound boxer in the world and has a record of 45 victories and just one defeat (to Floyd Mayweather Jr). Hatton wants to become the pound for pound champion and he has a very real chance of defeating Pacquiao.
All Hatton's worst performances have come when he has stepped up in weight and there are no concerns on that score in this fight. If Pacquaio has a weak spot in his defences it must be he is susceptible to body shots – and Hatton is one of the best body punchers in the game.
Pacquaio Will Be Hard To Beat
Manny Pacquiao was very impressive in his last fight against one of all-time greats of the sport, Oscar De La Hoya, but, in truth, the great man did not put up much of a defence against Pacquiao and he can expect a much harder night's work against Hatton.
Pacquiao is the 1/2 favourite to win the fight with Stan James and Betfred whilst Hatton is available at a best priced 2/1 with Sportingbet. The Draw is 28/1 with Totesport.
An explosive night looks assured on May 2nd and Hatton could surprise and looks a decent bet. For those wanting a more speculative wager try combining either fighter to win in an early round (rounds 1,2 or 3) as this looks certain to be a high octane encounter and a fight to remember.
