Epsom Oaks Betting Odds 2009
Monday 01 June 2009 at 10:36
The Epsom Oaks, the third classic of the season, takes place on Friday afternoon and the Epsom Oaks Betting Odds suggest it is likely to be a close contest.
Sariska A Solid Favourite
The current favourite for the race is Sariska trained by Michael Bell. Sariska won the Musidora Stakes at York by almost four lengths and that was her second win in three starts. Her only defeat came in soft ground over just seven furlongs on her seasonal debut this season and she still showed great speed that day to finish fourth behind Irish 2000 Guineas second Lahleeb. She seems a very smart filly and is worth a bet at 5/1 with Bet365, Paddy Power and Stan James.
Rainbow View Expected To Improve At Epsom
The second favourite for the Epsom Oaks is Rainbow View, who was sent off as the 8/11 favourite for the 1000 Guineas but disappointed by finishing just fifth. She ran on nicely that day and easier ground and a step up in trip should bring about further improvement. She holds a decent chance and many will be backing Rainbow View at 7/2 with Totesport and Sportingbet.
Midday Still Has To Prove Quality
The other horse who is disputing favouritism is Midday, impressive winner of the Oaks Trial at Lingfield. Midday won that race by six lengths but there has to be a doubt about the quality of opposition she beat. All she could do was win though and she did that well enough and the course and distance should be no problem at all for her. Midday is 4/1 with Bet365, Ladbrokes and William Hill.
Phillipina Holds Decent Chance
There are many other horses still in with a good chance, Sir Michael Stoute's Phillipina, who finished well to finish a short head behind Cheshire Oaks winner Perfect Truth (9/1 with Coral and William Hill), is 8/1 with Bet365, Paddy Power and Stan James and looks sure to reverse the form at Epsom.
