Burnley Favourites For Premiership Relegation But Hull And Birmingham Expected To Go Down With Them
Wednesday 12 August 2009 at 12:16
Burnley are the hot favourites to be relegated from the Premiership this season but Hull and Birmingham are not far behind them in what looks as though it could be the tightest relegation dogfight in years.
Burnley Fancied To Come Bottom By Bookies
In a season where a good case could be made for at least six sides going down, it is Burnley who are the favourites for the drop. The team that is promoted through the playoffs is usually the favourite to go down and that is the case here, Burnley are 8/13 to be relegated with Bet365 and SkyBet whilst you can get 5/2 with Boylesports that they finish bottom and 5/4 with Paddy Power that they stay up.
Promoted Teams Face Difficult Season, As Do Hull
The other two sides to come up from the Championship are Birmingham and Wolves and they are evens with Bet365 and Paddy Power and 13/8 with Paddy Power and SkyBet respectively to go down. It does seem that Wolves have a better chance of surviving and the bookies give both clubs a better chance of staying up than Hull, who are 10/11 to go down with Bet365 and Blue Square.
Two Sides Who Have Sold Their Best Players Will Struggle
The other clubs who look to be under a massive threat of relegation are Portsmouth and Wigan. Since last Christmas Pompey have sold Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Glenn Johnson and Wigan have lost Emile Heskey, Wilson Palacios and Antonio Valencia. That is about £70m worth of talent between them that hasn't been replaced and both sides will struggle. Portsmouth are 7/4 with Boylesports and Blue Square to go down whilst Wigan are overpriced at 9/2 with SkyBet. For more Premiership Betting markets click on any of the bookie links above.
