Lee Westwood Now Favourite In Race To Dubai Odds
Monday 19 October 2009 at 16:00
Lee Westwood has shot to the top of the European Tour Money list after victory last weekend at the Portugal Masters but can he maintain his lead in the Race To Dubai?
Westwood Finds Winning Form
Lee Westwood hasn't managed to win a title since the British Masters in September 2007 so his victory in Portugal was well overdue for a player currently ranked fifth in the world.
Westwood was superb from tee to green in Portugal and seemed to have no problems getting over the winning line despite a number of near misses in recent months.
Westwood's victory sees him open a €200,000+ lead over his nearest rival in the Race To Dubai and he is now a best priced 11/8 with Skybet to maintain his lead through to the final tournament in Dubai which ends on the 22nd November.
McIlroy The Main Challenger
Rory McIlroy is Westwood's nearest challenger and the young man from Northern Ireland will be keen to try and add to his one title this year, the Dubai Desert Classic, before the end of the season and he can be backed at 5/2 with Paddy Power and Ladbrokes to amass the most money by the end of the season.
Kaymer Needs To Find Summer Form
Martin Kaymer is in third place in the standings, nearly €250,000 behind Westwood but Kaymer managed to win back to back tournaments in July so don't rule out a grandstand finish from the young German Player. Kaymer is 10/1 with Stan James and Blue Square to win the Race To Dubai.
Can Casey Find Fitness In Time?
Paul Casey is probably the last player with a realistic chance of overhauling Westwood and he is just behind Kaymer in the financial standings. Casey is a 14/1 chance with Bet365.
However, Casey has been off the golf course for sometime with a rib injury and it remains to be seen if he can make it back to full fitness in time to challenge for the Harry Vardon trophy and the $1,500,000 first prize that goes with the Race To Dubai.
