 Melbourne Cup runners for the 2009 race are starting to find their jockeys. The Melbourne Cup takes place 3pm Melbourne time on Tuesday 3rd November, thats 4am for UK based Aussies and racing fans.
Frankie Dettori Melbourne Cup Runner to be Kirkless
Superstar and one of the world's greatest jockeys Frankie Dettori is on his way to Melbourne to ride the Godolphin first string Kirklees in the Melbourne Cup.
The presence of Dettori in the race is expected to increase the already huge betting turnover on the race that stops a nation. Kirklees is currently on offer at 34/1 with Australian bookmaker CentreBet.
Kirklees was disappointing in his prep race, the Caulfield Cup, when ridden by Australian jockey Kerrin Mcevoy. It was felt by many judges to be a poor ride. It is hoped that the horse with Frankie in the saddle can put in a better show on the 3rd of November.
