Friday 05 March 2010 at 15:01
The Hurt Locker is currently favourite to win both Oscars Best Picture and Oscars Best Director according to the latest Oscars 2010 Betting Odds. Avatar is not far behind but the latest Oscars rumours suggest both could miss out.
The Hurt Locker Favourite To Outperform Avatar In Two High Profile Categories
The Hurt Locker is currently a stronger favourite in the Best Director odds that the Best Picture Odds, the film's director Kathryn Bigelow can be backed at just 1/5 with Bet365, SkyBet and Paddy Power to win Best Director whilst her main rival, James Cameron who directed Avatar, is 10/3 with Bet365 and SkyBet to pick up the award. It is much less clear cut in the Best Picture betting odds, The Hurt Locker is still the favourite but things are much closer. The Hurt Locker can be backed at 5/6 with Paddy Power and Ladbrokes whilst Avatar is available at 6/5 with Bet365. who offer up to £200 in free bets to new customers.
Could The Academy Be Voting Against Both Avatar And The Hurt Locker
It turns out that it could be neither of the big two films picking up these awards. After William Hill cut the odds of Inglourious Basterds winning the Best Picture from 16/1 to 10/1, spokesman Rupert Adams had this to say:
“There is a theory going round that the tactics being employed by the big two to get votes has annoyed academy members and they have voted for the third choice which is Inglorious.”
Inglourious Basterds can still be backed at 16/1 to win Best picture with 888Sport and Boylesports whilst you can get odds of 33/1 with Coral that Quentin Tarantino wins the Best Director.
