Wimbledon 2010 Betting Odds Make Andy Murray Third Favourite Behind Federer And Nadal
Sunday 20 June 2010 at 00:00
British number one Andy Murray is third favourite in the Wimbledon 2010 Betting Odds and England's involvement in the World Cup 2010 may help to help to keep some of the media attention away from twenty-three year old Scot.
Murray Looking To Find Australian Open Form
Andy Murray was in fine form in the first Grand Slam event of the year, the Australian Open, finding only Roger Federer too good in the semi-final. The young Scot will be looking to find a similar vein of form for the highest profile fortnight of tennis' year when the worlds best head to Wimbledon. Murray may be glad the media spotlight is firmly on Wayne Rooney and the rest of the England team at the World Cup and this may take some of the stress away from his Wimbledon preparation. Andy Murray is an 8/1 chance with Sportingbet to lift the Wimbledon crown and will have most to fear from the men who have won the title every year since 2002. Roger Federer is looking for his seventh title at Wimbledon and the bookies make the Swiss superstar an 11/8 chance (William Hill, VC Bet and Ladbrokes) to carry on his winning spree on grass. The only man to beat Federer in that time at Wimbledon, Rafael Nadal, is second favourite this year at a general price of 5/2 with Bet365 and Paddy Power amongst others.
Serena and Venus Williams Dominate Wimbledon Ladies Betting
Serena Williams is the reigning Wimbledon champion as well as taking the title in 2002 and 2003. Three titles is an impressive haul and bookmakers Boylesports make her the 12/5 favourite to take the title again in 2010. Serena's sister Venus has an even more impressive tally of titles with five wins to her name (2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008) and understandably the bookies rate her the biggest threat to her sister at 7/2 (William Hill and Bet 365). However it could well be the turn of a new champion this year with Justine Henin (runner-up in 2001 and 2006) keen to finally win the Wimbledon title. The former world number one has won all the other Grand Slam events and winning Wimbledon would crown a glittering career. The twenty-eight year old from Belgium is 8/1 with Skybet and Stan James to take the title this year.
