Juan Manuel Marquez V Juan Diaz Betting Odds Have Marquez Favourite To Win Rematch Of Fight Of 2009
Saturday 31 July 2010 at 11:58
Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz square up against each other again this evening in Las Vegas and boxing fans will be hoping for a repeat performance of their fight of the year when Marquez stopped Diaz in 2009.
Marquez Looks Best Best In Rematch
Juan Manuel Marquez comes into this fight after a comprehensive defeat at the hands of Floyd Mayweather but very few boxers would be good enough to handle the great Mayweather and Marquez simply put on too much weight for that bout to even be competitive. However, tonight's fight with Diaz is back at a weight that should be more comfortable for the thirty-six year old three weight world champion.
Marquez recovered well from Diaz's fast start in their original battle in 2009, eventually stopping the American in the ninth round of an explosive contest and Marquez is likely to have too much strength again this evening. The bookmakers seem inclined to agree and make Marquez a best-priced 1/3 to win the fight with Boylesports with Diaz a 3/1 chance with Bet 365 and Sportingbet. The draw is rated a 28/1 chance with Skybet and Blue Square.
Diaz Could Be On The Downgrade
Since his great fight with Marquez in 2009 Juan Diaz has just had two fights both with Paul Malignaggi. In the first of those fights he scrambled a win on points and then comprehensively lost the rematch on the judges' cards and whilst Malignaggi is a good fighter he certainly is no world beater and, you would think, would be no match for Marquez. On that basis it would look that Marquez should be capable of affirming his earlier superiority and as he hasn't stopped anyone earlier than the seventh round since 2001, a late Marquez stoppage could be the best bet here. Marquez is 2/1 with Skybet to win in rounds 7-12 and that looks a great bet.
Marquez v Diaz Method Of Victory Betting Odds
Betting on the method of the boxer's victory is another popular boxing bet and for this fight Marquez is a best priced 11/8 to win inside the distance (ko, tko, disqualification) with bookmakers Boylesports or Paddy Power. For Diaz to win by the same method it is a best priced 17/2 with Bet 365.
For Marquez to win by a decision this is 7/4 with Coral or Skybet and for Diaz to win in this manner it is 9/2 with Sportingbet.
