Championship Betting Odds Have Middlesbrough And Nottingham Forest As Favourites
Monday 02 August 2010 at 17:35
Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest are favourites in the Championship Betting Odds for the forthcoming season which gets underway on Friday night.
Pressure On Strachan To Deliver Middlesbrough Back To Top Flight
Gordon Strachan is in charge of Championship favourites Middlesbrough and after taking over from Gareth Southgate in October 2009 this will be Strachan's first full season in charge at the club. Chairman Steve Gibson has given Strachan money to use in the transfer market and the former Celtic manager has been busy raiding his old stamping ground and bringing in Kris Boyd and Kevin Thomson from Rangers and Stephen McManus from Celtic. Strachan has also paid 1.4m for Nicky Bailey from Charlton so much will be expected of ‘Boro this year.
The bookies obviously feel Strachan has been spending wisely as they make Middlesbrough the 13/2 favourite to lift the Championship title and that price is available with Bet 365.
Forest Looking To Continue Improvement
Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies took his team from nineteenth in the Championship in 2008/9 to third last year only to suffer disappointment at the hands of Blackpool in the play-offs. Noted for their attractive football, Forest are second favourites to take the Championship Title at a best priced with Coral and VC Bet at 9/1. The latter firm being the best price about Forest is a bit surprising as they sponsor the team's shirts!
Others To Look Out For
Super-rich QPR could finally decide to buy some decent players and make a realistic challenge to get back into the Premiership. If so, the Superhoops are priced at 12/1 with Bet 365, Stan James and Coral. Another team who had success in the past that is sure to be popular with punters is Leeds Utd. The Yorkshire club are back in the Championship and looking for a quick vault straight into the top-flight. If you fancy Leeds to win the Championship they are 18/1 with Skybet, Blue Square and 888Sport.
