Ryder Cup 2010 Betting Odds Unchanged After Monty Announces Harrington, Donald And Molinari As Europes Wildcards
Sunday 29 August 2010 at 19:17
Europes Ryder Cup Captain for 2010, Colin Montgomerie, today named Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald and Edoardo Molinari as the final three players to complete the team that will take on the USA at Celtic Manor in October.
Bookies Still Make Europe Strong Favourites After Monty's Picks
The bookies are currently unmoved by the news of Europe's wildcards and they still make Europe a very strong 4/6 favourite (available with Paddy Power and VC Bet). The USA are a 7/4 shot to follow up their win at Valhalla in 2008 (Ladbrokes, William Hill and Stan James currently offer this price) and the tie is priced at 11/1 with Bet365 and Paddy Power.
Montgomerie Causes Surprise With Omission Of Casey
Colin Montgomerie caused a minor shock when 1/7 shot to be selected Paul Casey was left out of the European team for the Ryder Cup. Captain Monty appeared to be swayed by Edoardo Molinari's last gasp victory earlier in the day at Gleneagles in the Johnnie Walker Championship.
The prospect of an in-form Edoardo teaming up with his already selected brother Francesco appeared to have ended Casey's chances after the man from Surrey earlier appeared a certainty to make the team.
Europe Looking For Sixth Win In Last Eight Ryder Cups
4/6 may seem like a short price about Europe to lift the Ryder Cup but they have only been beaten twice in the last seven Ryder Cups and haven't lost in Europe since 1993.
The USA look set to field a large number of rookie Ryder Cup players and that won't help their cause and Europe could well record another comprehensive victory.
Correct score players could try Europe winning by scores of 17.5-10.5 (20/1 with William Hill) and 16.5-11.5 (15/1 with Skybet)
