Gamble On Paul Weller Slows Down As The XX Top Mercury Music Prize Betting Odds Once Again
Tuesday 07 September 2010 at 09:32
Yesterday's frantic gamble on veteran Paul Weller from 25/1 into favouritism appears to have hit the buffers as late money surfaced for long-time favourites The xx and drove them back to the head of the betting odds.
The XX Fend Off Weller Gamble
Anyone who got involved the massive gamble on Paul Weller to win the Mercury Music Prize must have been counting their money when William Hill shortened the former Jam frontman into as short as 1/10. However, those punters need to have a re-think as the former long-rime favourites The xx also saw sustained support late yesterday and have usurped Weller back at the head of the market.
The xx are now a best priced 10/11 with Paddy Power and William Hill and Paul Weller is now back out to 11/4 with Bet365.
The weight of money seems to be suggesting that this year's Mercury Music Prize is a two-horse race but in many previous years the award has been won by an outsider and Villagers (20/1 with William Hill) and Biffy Clyro (28/1 with Bet365) have attracted some interest in the market over the last few weeks and could provide a decent alternative to the two short-priced market leaders.
