Next Labour Party Leader Betting Odds As Candidates Face The Question Time Audience
Wednesday 15 September 2010 at 13:51
Question Time returns on Thursday 16 September with a Labour leadership special where the five candidates will be on the panel facing questions from the audience. Andy Burnham David Milliband, Diane Abbot, Ed Balls and Ed Milliband will all hope to enhance their popularity and garner support from undecided Labour members.
Labour Party Favourite
Favourite to become next Labour leader is David Milliband who is 2/5 with Bet 365, Paddy Power and William Hill. The older of the Milliband brothers has been a long time favourite although as we get closer to decision day some are questioning his candidacy feeling he is not radical enough. His presence as Foreign Secretary under Gordon Brown was expected to prove a great asset in the Labour Party leadership race but the reverse is proving to be the case, many in the Labour Party want a sea change and their next leader to offer the electorate a move away from the Blair/Brown years.
Ed Milliband
Momentum and value is with the younger Ed Milliband on offer at a best price of 15/8 with Ladbrokes. He spoke this week of being increasingly confident of snatching the crown from his brother and moving the party on from the new Labour years. He is thought to have strong support from the Unions and Labour Party activists.
Abbot Balls Burnham
Even if the Milliband vote is split the other three candidates are not thought to have enough potential votes to stop either David or Ed winning the Labour leadership. Bruiser Ed Balls is available at 100/1 with Coral and Paddy Power, Andy Burnham the former Health Secretary is 100/1 with Ladbrokes and William Hill and rank outsider Diane Abbot best known as a political pundit on the BBCs This Week programme is 250.0 with Betfair.
