Next Labour Leader Betting Odds Announcement Has Ed Milliband As New Favourite
Friday 24 September 2010 at 13:06
Manchester over the years as a city has hosted many great events, this weekend another will take place in a private smoke free room (unlike previous labour party discussions) as the new Labour Party Leader will be announced.
It is a two horse race with both horses named Milliband. The younger of the two brothers Ed Milliband is now the favourite having trailed his brother David for most of the contest. Ed can be backed to be the Next Labour Leader at 8/13 with Ladbrokes, this is the biggest price as many of the other bookmakers go 1/2. David is a best price 6/4 with Bet 365, Paddy Power and William Hill. Ladbrokes who often have the best information on political markets may feel that the contest is not yet over and their odds compilers are concerned that long term favourite David could just sneak the win.
Labour Leader Betting
It has been a remarkable betting market with the previously unfancied Ed Milliband impressing political watchers and the voters of the Labour Party with his statesmenlike pronouncements. David Milliband has suffered from being associated with New Labour as the party looks to move more to the left. He is seen maybe unfairly as one of the old guard and must be devastated as for so many weeks his lead looked unassailable. Three other candidates Andy Burnham, Diane Abbot and Ed Balls are still in the running and the betting but in truth have no chance, Burnham is 100/1 with Ladbrokes , Balls is 100/1 with SkyBet and Diane Abbot is the rank outsider at 225/1 with Bet 365.
