Hunter Mahan Looks A Better Bet Than Tiger Woods To Be Top American Points Scorer Odds For Ryder Cup 2010
Sunday 26 September 2010 at 22:49
All eyes will be on Tiger Woods when he joins the rest of the USA team at Celtic Manor for the Ryder Cup next week but punters could be advised to look elsewhere in the Top American Points Scorer market as Woods' record in Ryder Cups is awful.
Woods And Co Poor Records Mean Mahan Is The Top Tip
Tiger Woods has a woeful record of won nine, lost thirteen and two halved in previous Ryder Cups and with media intensity likely to be at a frenzy conditions are unlikely to be in his favour to improve that record. Likewise American stalwarts Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk also have lost more than they have won in Ryder Cups and make no appeal to be Top American, despite Furyk being in good form after winning the Tour Championship this weekend.
With five rookies in the team USA Captain Corey Pavin may be looking at the possibility of a heavy defeat and only Hunter Mahan and Zach Johnson of the players that have experience have any sort of a positive record. Zach Johnson has only lost one of his four matches and looks attractively priced to top the American points table at 14/1 with Ladbrokes and Bet365. However, with a won two, halved three record from his five games Hunter Mahan has yet to taste defeat in the Ryder Cup and with some fair form previously in the UK as well he looks the player most likely to score the most points for the USA. Mahan is a best-priced 11/1 with Stan James and looks well worth a bet at that price.
Europe continue to be supported in the outright market and are now best at 4/6 with William Hill and Paddy Power whilst the USA are out to 7/4 with a number of firms now including VC Bet, Coral and Blue Square. The Tie is rated a 12/1 shot by Skybet.
