Tiger Woods Odds Suggest He Can Win Back World Number One At HSBC Champions
Tuesday 02 November 2010 at 18:38
Tiger Woods returns to competitive golf for the first time since the Ryder Cup after seeing his 281 week run as world number one brought to a close by Lee Westwood. Woods has played three times in the HSBC Champions Tournament and will be looking to make it back to world number one straight away.
Woods Has Painful Memories At Sheshan
Tiger Woods is once again in the thick of the media spotlight as he returns to the Sheshan course in Shangahi and he does not have great memories of the course as it one of the few places he has gone head to head with other players and lost out. In 2005 he ended up losing out by three shots to David Howell and missed out again by two shots to Y E Yang in 2006. A sixth place finish behind great rival Phil Mickleson last year will also have hurt so Tiger will be all out to make amends this year and wrestle back the title of top ranked world player in the process. Victor Chandler, Coral and Paddy Power all make Tiger Woods 8/1 to win the HSBC Champions Tournament.
Two-time winner Phil Mickelson is also certain to have his supporters and with a record that reads 1-8-1 at the course he will be extremely hard to beat at a track he obviously loves. Mickelson is a best-priced 11/1 with Bet 365, Boylesports and William Hill.
The European challenge is headed by new world number one Lee Westwood. Confidence in the Worksop player is a concern as Westwood has been carrying an injury but his decision to return here must be seen as he is 100% ready to take on the best in the world. The bookmakers are offering a generous looking 18/1 about Westwood and that price is available with William Hill, Victor Chandler and Skybet.
Also in the field is Race To Dubal front-runner Martin Kaymer who needs a good week here to pull further clear of Graeme McDowell and Lee Westwood in the European Money List. Kaymer finished sixth in Shanghai last year and looks good for another high placed finish. Kaymer is 16/1 with Ladbrokes and Stan James.
Of all the Europeans Paul Casey has the best record at the course with a 11-9-6-7 record when he has completed the course. Injury intervened last year when he stood at -6 so he has yet to disappoint in Shanghai and looks a great bet to win this event with Ladbrokes, Betfred and William Hill
