England World Cup Bid 2018 To Fail According To Betting Odds
Monday 29 November 2010 at 16:03
Despite the best efforts of former England captain David Beckham and Prime Minister David Cameron it looks like the England bid for the 2018 World Cup is going to fail.
All the bookmakers including Paddy Power and Victor Chandler have pushed England out in the betting to 3/1. At the beginning of the month England looked to be in poll position and were on offer at 10/11. Even the betting exchange Betfair think the 2018 bid will lose out and they go 4.300. England's World Cup bid looks to be in tatters and the Chief Executive of the bid says they feel like underdogs. An investigation by the BBC Panorama programme questioning the bidding process is also expected to harm Englands chances.
Russia Are Favourites
New favourites to host the 2018 World Cup are Russia at a best price of 10/11 with Blue Square, Bet 365 go 5/6 and Ladbrokes offer odds of 4/5. Also supported has been the joint bid of Portugal and Spain, the Iberian penisula countries have seen large wagers in recent days and they could snatch the tournament from Russia. You can back Portugal and Spain 2018 at 3/1 with Ladbrokes.
Outsiders and no hopers according to the betting is another joint bid, this time from Belgium and Holland. Their bid is 40/1 with Paddy Power and William Hill.
