Oscars 2011 Betting Odds Make Colin Firth The Shortest Price Favourite But Best Director Still Competitive
Thursday 03 February 2011 at 10:36
The Oscars 2011 Betting Odds are becoming increasingly popular with the 83rd Annual Academy Awards taking place on February 27th. This year we have clear favourites in most categories but there are still some categories that are not foregone conclusions and there could also be some upsets in the other ones.
Colin Firth Likely To Be Biggest Oscar Certainty Ever
The Best Actor category looks to be the biggest foregone conclusion at the Oscars 2011, Colin Firth has been well touted to win an Oscar for his role as King George VI in The Kings Speech, he has already been mopping up other awards and is as short as 1/100 with Sportingbet to win the Oscar for Best Actor, although you can still get 1/20 with SkyBet, Blue Square and 888Sport. James Franco put in a great performance in 127 Hours but because of Colin Firth's short odds he is as big as 25/1 at the moment with Coral.
Best Picture And Best Director Developing Into Great Battles
The most interesting category this year could be Best Picture which is always one of the most looked forward to results, The King's Speech is just 2/5 with SkyBet to win Best Picture whilst The Social Network is now as big as 28/17 with Unibet. The Unibet Head Of Sportsbook, Erik Backlund, has this to say about how competitive it is this year:
“So many great films this year which means that the Best Picture Oscar will truly be a neck-to-neck race. It will also be quite exciting to follow the Best Actress category and see which Golden Globe winner will prevail as both Natalie Portman, priced by Unibet at 2/15, and Annette Bening at 4/1, won a Golden Globe for best actress in January!”
Even more competitive than the Best Picture category is the Oscars Best Director Betting Odds, some bookies now can't separate David Fincher (The Social Network) and Tom Hooper (The Kings Speech), the former is 10/1 with Victor Chandler and the latter is evens with Blue Square and 888Sport.
