Cheltenham Gold Cup 2011 Tips And Odds Suggest Imperial Commander Should Win Again
Friday 11 March 2011 at 11:31
Cheltenham Betting is becoming more popular with the Festival fast approaching and most bets at the moment are going on the Cheltenham Gold Cup, where the three winners of the last four Gold Cups all go head to head.
Kauto Star And Denman Look Past It
Kauto Star is bidding for a third Gold Cup win having won in 2007 and 2009 but at the age of 11 he could be up against it, the last horse over the age of 10 to win was in 1969 and although Kauto Star is clearly a great horse who could still run well but 13/2 on him winning doesn't make much appeal. The same sentiments also apply to Denman who is also 11, he won the Gold Cup in 2008 and again he may run well but 7/1 on the win looks a bit on the short side. So who does that leave?
Imperial Commander Much More Lightly Raced Than Most Ten Year Olds
The last ten winners of the Gold Cup have all gone off well fancied in the first three in the betting, if an 11 year old can't win then that leave the two favourites Imperial Commander and Long Run. Some will be against Imperial Commander because he too is getting on a bit at the age of 10, the last ten year old winner was in 1998 but Imperial Commander is still relatively lightly raced, he has had just twelve runs over fences which is nine less races than Kauto Star had had when winning in 2009. Imperial Commander looks very solid at a top price of 7/2. What makes Imperial Commander look even better is his nearest rival, Long Run, has never even won at Cheltenham which is a huge negative for a Gold Cup runner.
