Cheltenham Gold Cup 2011 Declarations And Odds Have Imperial Commander Still Favourite
Wednesday 16 March 2011 at 11:38
The Cheltenham Gold Cup 2011 Declarations are in and there will be fourteen runners taking part this year unless there are any late withdrawals. The Cheltenham Gold Cup 2011 Odds have Imperial Commander as the favourite but there is the prospect of soft ground on Friday which would most likely see many changes in the Cheltenham Gold Cup Odds.
Rain Forecast For Friday Could Upset Some Horses' Chances
Up to 5mm of rain has been forecast on the morning of the Cheltenham Gold Cup and that would probably see the ground turned soft, last year there was a downpour just before the race and Imperial Commander and Denman finished first and second that day so it is likely neither would be inconvenienced by some morning rain, however two time Gold Cup winner Kauto Star would surely like the rain to stay clear this year.
Support For Imperial Commander And Denman Likely
Imperial Commander and Denman would look decent bets once again if the rain comes, they are currently around 10/3 and 15/2 respectively and even the forecast would appeal as a good bet should that forecast rain arrive. Soft ground would probably cost Kauto Star any chance he had of winning a third Gold Cup whilst it may not be the ground that goes against Long Run but rather the course, he is yet to win at Cheltenham in two attempts and that doesn't compare very favourably with last year's winner Imperial Commander who has won in five of his six races over fences at Cheltenham.
